Les Trois Vallées and Les Menuires

The entire ski area of Les Trois Vallées consists of 600 km of slopes, making it the largest ski
area in the world.

Les Trois Vallées consists (as the name suggests) of three beautiful, contiguous valleys, each with its own character and atmosphere; Vallée de Belleville, Vallée de Méribel and Vallée de Courchevel.

Les Menuires is located at an altitude of 1850 m in Vallée de Belleville, including the villages of Saint-Martin (1450 m) and Val Thorens at an altitude of 2300 m. All villages in the three valleys are accessible by public transport in the high season (winter and summer). In the winter season, the villages are connected by lifts and slopes. Some lifts are also open in the summer season, allowing you to hike and mountain bike higher in the mountains.

In winter as well as in summer, Les Trois Vallées is a wonderful retreat for athletes who can each look for personal challenges at their own level and enjoy unspoiled nature. Of course you can enjoy yourself on skis and/or snowboard on the slopes, but in winter there are certainly also opportunities for cross-country skiing and hiking. In summer, in addition to cycling (cycling, MTB, downhill mountain biking) and hiking, there are also countless other activities to do.

Compared to the other villages of Les Trois Valléés, Les Menuires is a very family and child-friendly village. In the village you will find cozy après-ski, restaurants, a shopping boulevard and many other facilities, such as a swimming pool with various wellness options and massage. All facilities are open in both the winter and summer seasons. Exceptions to this are the restaurants located on the slopes. These are mostly closed in the summer, except for a few.

The Winter

The winter season runs approximately from mid-December to mid-April (in Val Thorens even until the beginning of May).

The ski area of Les Trois Vallées consists of more than 600 km of slopes. For beginners as well as very experienced skiers and snowboarders, there is a new descent and challenge every day. The whole area has 334 different slopes that take you from the highest peaks to the most beautiful villages. Our children have the greatest pleasure in 'ticking peaks' or 'covering as many kilometers as possible' in one day. The ski lifts are very well connected. There are hardly any drag lifts in Les Trois Vallées. Almost all lifts are very modern and fast chairlifts or gondolas.

The entire area is high, between 1300 and 3230 meters, and is therefore very snow-sure.

In addition to the many skiing and snowboarding opportunities, you can also use various cross-country skiing and hiking trails in winter.

Summer

Les Trois Vallées is pre-eminently a winter sports area, but especially in the summer the valleys are even more beautiful. The tranquility, the green flower-strewn slopes and the fresh mountain streams have not yet been discovered by mass tourism in the summer.

The summer season consists of the months of July and August. In recent years, Les Trois Vallées and certainly Les Menuires have started to focus more and more on the summer season. The area is therefore in full development. For example, a paved cycle path has been built that offers you the opportunity to cycle high into the mountains. For the more adventurous cyclist, there are numerous gravel and MTB routes and Les Menuires has a challenging donwhill bike park ( see above: lesmenuires.com/bike-park; stmartin-belleville.com/bike-park and wielerflits.nl/fietstoerisme)

In addition to cycling, the mountains are of course also ideal for hiking in the summer. You will find many hiking trails of varying difficulty in Les Menuires and Les Trois Vallées.

It is recommended to 'at least' take the walk to 'Lac du Lou' in the summer. And at the 'Refuge du Lac du Lou' to enjoy a delicious crepe.

More challenging activities are also possible, such as a Via Ferrata, zipline, paragliding, etc.

The centre of Les Menuires is bustling with conviviality and activities in summer. There are beautiful tennis courts, there is a nice skate park, you can go horseback riding and a 'must do' is certainly the go-kart descent from the ROC 1 lift.

If you are more in need of relaxation, it is wonderful to relax in the valley along the roaring river. There are many nice places with lawns and picnic tables here, where you can enjoy the peace and quiet and read a book. It's great to let your feet dangle in the stream when you need to cool off.

In the summer it is of course also nice to discover more of the surroundings of Les Trois Vallées. Think of a visit to Lake Annecy or the Alpe d'Huez, for example.
